It’s not too early to begin training for the eighth annual Jack Hazen 5-K, scheduled this year for Saturday, October 11.
Hosted by the Malone University Wellness Council, the run/walk will once again take place on the home turf of the Pioneer cross country teams.
Participants will be grouped according to age: from 9-and-under through 70-and-over. Participants may compete in the 5K run only, or combine a bench press first with the 5-K into a “pump and run.” Pump-and-runners will earn a deduction from their race time relative to the amount of repetitions they were able to pump. The pump for pump-and-runners begins at 7 a.m.
The run for all begins at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a separate kids’ run for children ages five and under.
Participants will also receive free entry into Professor Wylde’s Traveling Animal Show from the Cleveland Zoo, as well as free entry into Malone’s Zoology animal collection at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Register online at www.malone.edu/pumpandrun.
Registration forms are also available at the Malone University Wellness Center on the Canton campus, located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. Awards will be presented to the top three overall winners as well as the top three winners in each age group for both the Pump & Run and the 5-K only competitions.
A portion of all proceeds will benefit Refuge of Hope in Canton.
