One person is dead, and several others injured, following a shooting yesterday in West Salem.  It happened just before 6pm in the parking lot of Dragway 42.  Authorities say it occurred at the end of a day-long event at the racetrack when several people confronted a man, who was reportedly intoxicated and doing burnouts in the parking lot.  Witnesses say the man then got out of his truck, armed with a handgun, and opened fire.  According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, another person in the crowd shot back, resulting in more than 20 shots being fired.

Reports right now say that five people were injured.  No names have been released.

The person who shot back was questioned by authorities, but the man who fired the initial shots fled the scene and has yet to be located. It is believed that the man who was fatally shot was simply a bystander from the Cleveland-area.  The shooting remains under investigation.
