In an effort to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus Delta variant across the area, more than 30 inmates have been moved from the Wayne County Jail. On Wednesday, the jail either released or furloughed 32 nonviolent felony or misdemeanor inmates, a move that reduces the facility’s population from 120 to 88. Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Captain James Richards said the move comes after the entire facility was tested recently and aligns with current CDC health and safety protocols. The furloughed inmates will return to jail in November.
