During a recent speech to the Wooster Rotary Club, Wayne County Commissioner Ron Amstutz spoke about the issue of farmland preservation.  According to Amstutz, Wayne County has lost some 20,000 acres of prime farmland in the last five years to development.  One of the tools the county is now employing to preserve farmland is the use of Agricultural Security Areas, which provide tax incentives to farmland owners who voluntarily agree not to develop their land.
