The family of an Apple Creek man, who was shot and killed two years ago by a Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the sheriff’s office.  Also named in the suit were several law enforcement officials, the county and the county’s board of commissioners.  60-year old Rodney Geiser was fatally shot in December of 2018 after refusing deputies’ orders to put down a gun that he was holding to his own head.  The family’s civil suit claims that on the morning he was killed, Geiser did not pose an immediate threat to anyone else and therefore should not have been shot.  The suit also states that both the sheriff’s office and the Apple Creek Police Department were aware that Geiser suffered from emotional problems.
