The Houston Astros were able to complete a massive comeback and defeat the Seattle Mariners 8-7 at home in Game 1 of the American League Division Series.

For Houston, the Astros trailed 7-3 in the middle of the 8th inning and were able to complete the comeback due to a two-run homerun by third baseman Alex Bregman in the 8th, while outfielder Yordan Alvarez hit a walk-off three-run homerun in the bottom of the 9th to win the game 8-7. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander went 4.0 complete innings, struck out three batters and allowed 10 hits for six earned runs.

For Seattle, the Mariners got contributions on offense by first baseman Ty France, who went 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs, and young All-Star outfielder Julio Rodriguez, who went 2-4 at the plate with a walk and two RBIs. Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert went 5.1 innings, struck out five batters and allowed five hits and two walks for three earned runs. Starting pitcher Robbie Ray, who came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the 9th inning, suffered the loss for allowing the three-run homerun to Alvarez.

The Astros will attempt to take a 2-0 lead over the Mariners at home for Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Thursday, October 13th, at 3:37 p.m.
