The Denver Broncos will bench Russell Wilson in their Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Chargers in a move that increases their financial flexibility this upcoming offseason, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Broncos coach Sean Payton informed the team Wednesday that Jarrett Stidham will start at quarterback against the Chargers instead of Wilson, sources told Schefter.

Wilson already will make $39 million guaranteed in 2024, but he has an additional $37 million that would become guaranteed if he can’t pass a physical by early March.

The Broncos (7-8) still have an outside chance at the postseason but have lost three of their last four games.
