The Ohio State women’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 2017.

The sixth-seeded Buckeyes pulled off a 79-64 upset of host and No. 3 seed LSU in an NCAA second round game played at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La., Monday night.

The Buckeyes (25-6) got out to leads of 15-8 after one quarter, 34-26 at the half and expanded it to 57-37 after three quarters in coasting to the win.

OSU advances to the Spokane Region and will play No. 2 seed Texas (28-6). The Longhorns advanced with a 78-56 win over No. 7 seed Utah. Those teams will play in a regional semifinal on Friday. They will be joined in Spokane by top-seeded Stanford and No. 4 seed Maryland, who will also play Friday. The winners will play on Sunday for a spot in the Final Four, which is set for April 1-3 in Minneapolis.

Guard Jacy Sheldon led the Buckeyes with 23 points, eight assists and three steals. She was 9 of 17 from the floor, 2 of 5 on threes and 3 of 3 at the foul line.

Guard Taylor Mikesell was 4 of 7 on threes and added 18 points.
