Canaan Township Fire is set to lose nearly $100,000 in tax revenue after the state pulled one of the fire levies passed in November. The levy was passed by voters in November, but was found to have a mistake in the ballot language and is being pulled by the Ohio Department of Taxation. The levy was a 2.0 mill renewal with a 1.05 mill increase, but the state concluded that the levy renewal could be confusing for voters because the original levy was written in 1984. The fire department is now reassessing staffing to make sure they can continue to provide round the clock coverage.
