The Cleveland Guardians fell to the New York Yankees 5-1 on Tuesday in Game 5 of the ALDS.
The loss for Cleveland ends the Guardians 2022 campaign, while the win for the Yankees sends the team to the ALCS to take on the Houston Astros.
For Cleveland, the only run the Guardians scored was in the 3rd inning when All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and cut the New York lead to 4-1.
Starting pitcher Aaron Civale suffered the loss for going 0.1 inning, striking out one batter and allowing two hits and one walk for three earned runs.
For New York, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton got the Yankees on the board in the 1st inning with a three-run homerun to take a very early 3-0 lead. Later in the 2nd inning, All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge hit a solo homerun to increase the New York lead to 4-0. Finally in the 5th inning, first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead and eventual win.
Starting pitcher Nestor Cortez got the win for going 5.0 innings, striking out two batters and allowing three hits and one walk for one earned run.
