Businesses were evacuated and traffic rerouted after construction crews nicked a gas line while working on State Route 18 in Medina Monday. The crews hit the gas line just east of the Cleveland Clinic Medina Campus just before 6 p.m. Monday, causing plumes of natural gas to flow into the air. The leak took several hours to fix, as crews worked to put a valve on the line, so they did not have to shut down gas to the hospital. The construction crew was working as the city continues to prepare for ODOT’s Route 18 widening project.
