Early on Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts announced they had hired former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen to be the team’s next head coach.

Just a short time later that day,  the Arizona Cardinals announced they had hired former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to be their next head coach.

Steichen, 37, has held several roles in his dozen years of NFL coaching. His first foray into the league came as a defensive assistant with the Chargers in 2011. He then permanently transitioned to offense when he joined the Browns in 2013 as an offensive assistant working with the team’s quarterbacks.

Gannon, 40, had been the Eagles’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons and immediately made an impact. He turned Philadelphia into a top-10 defense in his first year, and this season, the Eagles ranked No. 2 in the league while boasting two Pro Bowlers.

Steichen replaces Frank Reich, who spent five seasons with the Colts and went 40-33-1 before he was fired after a Week 9 loss to the Patriots that dropped Indianapolis’ record to 3-5-1.

Meanwhile, Gannon replaces Kliff Kingsbury, who was fired in January after going 28-37-1 with one playoff appearance in four seasons, and becomes the Cardinals’ fourth head coach in seven years.
