Ashland University’s 2020 Burton D. Morgan Lecture and Lunch

Noted entrepreneur, Mansfield native and Money Therapy founder and CEO Ellie Thompson will be the speaker at Ashland University’s 2020 Burton D. Morgan Lecture and Lunch on Monday, Feb. 24, at 11:45 a.m. at the Myers Convocation Center on the Ashland University campus. The event, which includes lunch, is free and open to the public.

Thompson is the founder of two successful Washington, D.C.-based startups, Venyou and Money Therapy. The former is a platform that creates curated events through the use of historic and residential spaces, while Money Therapy was founded on the belief that financial education and action should live together. She recently has returned to the area to join as the third generation of TASCO, her family’s metal stamping business, where she is the vice president of business development.

The event, which is held in memory of noted entrepreneur Burton D. Morgan, is organized by the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship of Ashland University and is supported by a grant from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation.

“It is an honor to bring a leading female entrepreneur, Ellie Thompson, to the Ashland University campus, and we look forward to hearing her inspirational message of entrepreneurship which will inspire our students, faculty and the community, Ellie’s message will resonate well for students of all majors and colleges,” said Tom Sudow, director of the Burton D. Morgan Center at AU.

Thompson graduated from Marquette University with a double major in finance and entrepreneurship and worked for J.P. Morgan Asset Management and the financial wellness startup HelloWallet before becoming an entrepreneur.

A member of Rent the Runway and UBS’s 2018 Project Entrepreneur Class, Thompson’s financial pieces have been published in Forbes, TheStreet, MSN Money, Bustle, GirlBoss and NBC News. In Washington, Thompson served as a mentor for students in the American University Center for Innovation. Upon returning to the region, she joined the board of the Ashland Regional Ballet.

Ashland’s Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, established in 2003 located in a wing of AU’s Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics, focuses on serving the educational needs of students by actively promoting, encouraging and developing entrepreneurial knowledge through experiential learning. The Morgan Center facilities and its programs serve as a vital tool in the overall integration of entrepreneurship across the Ashland University campus, allowing students opportunities to practice entrepreneurial skills in a low-risk environment.
