Drive Electric Earth Day at Local Roots

It’s Drive Electric Earth Day!

Local Roots Market Café in downtown Wooster is hosting a Drive Electric Earth Day event on April 24. The event is an opportunity to learn more about electric cars, enjoy food and drinks, and meet many
partner organizations who will be attending.
This is the second annual Drive Electric Earth Day event hosted by Local Roots, with the first event in 2019 and the 2020 event canceled due to the pandemic. At last count, there were 26 electric vehicles registered for the event with a collective 659,455 miles driven. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the different vehicle models and some car owners will even offer rides to those interested (with sanitation between rides).
This Earth day event is about much more than cars. It’s also a chance to engage over a dozen businesses and non-profit setting up booths that day, including Schaeffler, Wayne County Sustainable Energy Network, Green Energy Ohio, Wayne Center for the Arts, and more. Ride On has generously offered for the event to extend into their parking lot (to the south of Local Roots) and will be offering electric bicycles for sale and special discounts for tune-up signups. The variety of activities is extensive. One locally owned family farm, Adonai Acres, will be offering a “Seed Starting with an Emphasis on Seed Saving” class at 11:30 and 12:30 that day. Plus, Local Roots is partnering with Meatheads Union to offer some D.O.R.A. specials for the event. There are also kid- friendly activities at some of the booths. The event takes place from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, April 24 at Local Roots, with the event taking place in the south parking lot 140 S. Walnut Street, Wooster, OH 44691. Local Roots will be open regular hours 8 AM – 5 PM, fully stocked with spring produce and locally made items, and the Curry Pot will be serving traditional foods from their home region of Kerala from 11 AM – 2 PM. (Please note that the event will be following all health department protocols for COVID safety). For more information on the benefits of driving an electric car and to register for the event, go to the Drive Electric Earth Day website at And if you are interested in volunteering,
