Improvisational comedy is a great tool for any hungry performer, no matter how far they are along their comedy journey. As anxiety inducing is to be on stage, trying to recollect a pre-written set, making up material on the spot is a whole different matter. But improvisation has a slight edge over stand-up comedy for those with any level of stage fright — the strength of collaboration. Jokes can be magic. Seeing a group of people on stage all stumbling through a performance together, making it up on the spot and making it work is a unique kind of spectacle.Improv Comedy Basics: For Brave Introverts and Extroverts taught by Shawn Wickens, aims to empower students of comedy with some insight, knowledge, wisdom and a little stage experience. Comedian Shawn Wickens is a Cleveland, Ohio native and New York City resident. He has performed improvisation for close to 15 years. As an instructor, he has taught improvisation at festivals, corporate workshops, theaters and schools around the country. As he evolved into a stand-up comedian, he capitalized on strengths, skills and experience that he developed while performing with others, into the confidence to become a solo performer. “I don’t know if I would have been brave enough to try stand-up comedy, had I not already felt confident about getting up on stage and improvising,” shares Wickens.    After some quick advice, words of encouragement and guided instruction, participants can expect to walk away from this 2-hour workshop gaining some practical stage practice. “All comedy is a challenge. The better improvisors can collaborate together, the more they are rewarded with laughter from the audience” he continues. “Stand-up is similar in that there exists an unspoken collaboration between the performer and the audience. Ultimately it’s an agreement that we’re all here for a good time and to enjoy the moment.” Back by popular demand, Wickens previously brought this workshop to a sold-out group of Krackpots students this past May. “It’s a great, low-impact way to get up on the Krackpots stage,” raves the comedy instructor. “Chris Ketler and the Krackpots family consistently host some wild and fun comedy nights. If you’ve yet to come for a show, I say make a day of it. Try out the class then stick around for some world class stand-up.  More about Krackpots Comedy Club:Krackpots Comedy Club brings nationally touring comedians to North East Ohio.
