The Wayne County Historical Society Summer Community Band is looking forward to their concerts this summer.  The band will be performing under the very capable baton of Mr Randy Claes for his 13th year directing the band. The band has grown considerably since Claes began directing with over 65 current members!
On Thursday, July 11th at 7:00 p.m., the band will be performing in “Downtown Wooster” on North Market Street facing the Northeast “Quad”, weather permitting. Spectators will need to bring their own lawn chairs.  If inclement weather, the concert will be in St. Mary’s Church gymnasium. Presented by Main Street Wooster, the concert is sponsored by the Wayne County Historical Society and Sprenger Health Care.  A huge THANK YOU to a friend of the W.C. Historical Society that is sponsoring the band for the 14th year and wishes to remain anonymous!
A second concert is planned for Mon. evening, July 15, at 7:00 pm in the Sonnenberg Village above Kidron, OH.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be in the barn in the village campus. This concert is sponsored by Sonnenberg Village.
We greatly appreciate the wonderful cooperation of the College of Wooster for the practice facilities in Scheide Hall. Also appreciated is St. Mary’s Catholic Church for the use of their school gymnasium if needed!! A big thank you to McIntire, Bradham, & Sleek Funeral Home for the use of their chairs for the band and to Jim’s Auto for the vehicle to haul the chairs.
We will be playing “fun” songs – marches, show tunes, patriotic songs, etc. The band is an effort to remind us of the bands which many communities had back a century or so ago.  The Wooster Board of Trade Band with their concerts in the old bandstand in front of the former “Annats”, then “Everything Rubbermaid” store (now “E & H Hardware”) was an example of this type of band.
The band is open to anybody that plays a band instrument (including percussion), young or not so young, experienced or not so experienced!! We range in age from 13 to 85 years young! We are pleased to have so many members in the band this year! Several members of the band have college degrees in music and several more played in a college level band while they were in college.
