An area group has come up with a proposal to try and keep Wooster’s Alice Noble Ice Arena open by creating a nonprofit organization that would raise funds for the arena. The group, which includes the Wooster Hockey Association and the Wooster Figure Skating Club, recently presented its proposal to the Noble Foundation, which announced plans last month to close the facility and give it to the Wooster City School District, which in turn would convert the rink into an indoor turf field. Last week though, the Noble Foundation pledged to keep the rink open for the next three years, but only if the community could come up with $450,000 to help cover the rink’s operating expenses. The foundation’s president says board members are currently working on a response to the proposal and hope to give their answer by the end of the week.
