The Cleveland Guardians were able to defeat the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday by a final score of 5-3, marking the sixth straight win for the team. The win also marks a sweep in the three-game series against the Angels, which is the second straight sweep for the Guardians against an opponent.

For Cleveland (76-65), the Guardians got on the board in the 2nd inning with a solo homerun by outfielder Oscar Gonzalez to take a 1-0 lead. The Angels eventually would take a 3-1 lead, but the Guardians were able to score in the 5th inning when catcher Austin Hedges grounded into a double play to cut the lead to 3-2. Cleveland tied the game at 3-3 in the 7th inning when shortstop Tyler Freeman hit an RBI double, while All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez hit a two-run homerun in the 8th inning to give the Guardians the 5-3 lead and eventual win. Starting pitcher Cal Quantrill went 7.0 complete innings, struck out six batters and allowed eight hits and three earned runs. Relief pitcher Trevor Stephan got his fifth win of the season for going 1.0 scoreless inning and allowing only one hit, while relief pitcher James Karinchak got earned his third save of the season for striking out a batter and allowing only one hit in the 9th inning to win the game.

For Los Angeles (61-82), outfielder Mickey Moniak hit a two-run homerun in the 3rd inning to get the Angels on the board, while star outfielder Mike Trout hit an RBI single in the 5th inning to give Los Angeles a 3-1 lead. Starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval went 5.1 innings, struck out three batters and allowed seven hits for two earned runs. Relief pitcher Ryan Tepera suffered his third loss of the season for allowing three hits for two earned runs in the 8th inning.

The Guardians will next be at home to take on the Chicago White Sox for a make-up game on Thursday, September 14th, with first pitch set for 1:10 p.m.
