On Friday, the Guardians traded Cal Quantrill to the Rockies for minor league catcher Kody Huff.  Quantrill, who pitched four seasons for the Guardians, went 27-15 with a 3.58 ERA. He struggled last season, going 4-7 with a 5.24 ERA, while making two trips to the injured list because of a right shoulder impingement.  Chris Antonetti, president of baseball operations, said Quantrill was DFA’d because they felt his projected arbitration salary of $6.6 million could be put to better use on the roster.

Huff, 22, was the Rockies’ seventh round pick in 2022 out of Stanford. Last season he hit .262 (77 for 294) with 14 doubles, five homers and 36 RBI at Class A Fresno. He threw out 29 runners trying to steal against him and was named Defensive Catcher of the Year in the California League by Baseball America.
