Holmes County’s Health Commissioner is on the record as saying that the state’s numbers claiming his county has the lowest COVID vaccination rate of any county in Ohio are somewhat misleading. According to the Ohio Department of Health, less than three percent of Holmes County’s population has received the first dose of the vaccine, but Mike Derr says a big part of that is because Holmes County has one of the youngest populations in the state, and for the most part, the vaccine is being distributed to older people first. County health department officials say they are working to get as many people vaccinated as possible and that everyone in the county who qualifies under Phase 1A has been given the opportunity to receive the vaccine.
