The Highway Patrol has released crash totals for last year. Locally, Wayne County had 1,889 accidents in 2022, sixteen of which were fatal. Of the sixteen fatal crashes, the patrol says eight involved people who were intoxicated. The patrol also reports that State Route 585 and the portion of I-71 in Wayne County each had 111 accidents last year. Elsewhere, the number of wrecks in Ashland County was just over 1,200, while Holmes County reported 636 accidents. Statewide, there were more than 257,000 crashes in 2022, 1,269 of them fatal.
