Populations in both Holmes and Wayne counties have grown over the last 10 years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Bureau released its 2020 census data on Thursday and the results show an increase of 4.4% for Holmes County, or 1,857 people, while Wayne County increased by 2.1%, or 2,374 people. Both counties also saw growth in diversity, with increases in either Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, or American Indian populations. Nearby Ashland County saw an overall population decrease of 1.3%, or 692 people.
