Holmes County Commissioner Joe Miller says that the tourism in Holmes County continues to thrive despite the pandemic. Miller notes that Holmes County’s sale tax revenue continues to climb, exceeding $1 million in four of the seven months so far this year. That’s an increase of about $150,000 per month over the previous year, and the 34 percent increase in sales tax collections is the largest ever for the county. According to the CDC, Holmes County is one of the lowest vaccinated counties in the state at around 15 percent, but also has one of the lowest transmission rates.
