The Mapleton Local School District is continuing to mourn the death of a high school senior who collapsed on the football field during Friday night’s homecoming festivities. 17-year-old Bre McKean was on Mapleton’s homecoming court and collapsed on the field after being introduced to the crowd. According to McKean’s father, who serves as Mapleton’s athletic director, his daughter was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital in Ashland. After being notified of McKean’s death at halftime, the district suspended the football game and cancelled Saturday’s homecoming dance, along with all athletic activities scheduled through Wednesday. Grief counselors are on hand today at the school for students and staff members.
