The Cleveland Guardians fell to the Seattle Mariners on the road on Friday night by a final score of 3-2 in 11 innings. The Guardians have now lost back-to-back games to the Mariners in this road series.

For Cleveland (66-58), the only runs on the night came due to sacrifice flies, with rookie outfielder Steven Kwan doing so in the 3rd inning and first baseman Josh Naylor getting one in the 6th inning. The Guardians had multiple chances later in the game, but were unable to capitalize on the potential scoring situations. Ace pitcher Shane Bieber went 7.0 innings, struck out nine batters and allowed five hits for two runs with only one being earned. Closer Emmanuel Clase suffered his third loss of the season for allowing the game-winning run in the inning.

For Seattle (69-57), the only runs for the Mariners in regulation also came by sacrifice flies, with shortstop J.P. Crawford doing so in the 5th inning and second baseman Adam Frazier getting one in the 7th inning to tie the game at 2-2. The only run of the entire ballgame for both teams that was not a sacrifice fly came in the bottom of the 11th inning, with it coming from an RBI single outfielder Mitch Haniger to give the Mariners a walk-off 3-2 win. Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert went 6.1 innings, struck out two batters and allowed eight hits for two earned runs. Relief pitcher Penn Murfee got his fourth win of the season for going 1.0 scoreless inning to assist in securing the Seattle win.

The Guardians will continue this road series against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, August 27th, with first pitch set for 10:10 p.m.
