Wayne County Commissioners recently issued a special proclamation to recognize the retirement of Helen Walkerly. Walkerly will be stepping down at the end of the month as executive director of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Walkerly served at the nonprofit for 20 years, beginning as a volunteer and then workinhg her way up through the ranks. During her time at NAMI, Walkerly helped develop a local crisis intervention program, a suicide response team and a support group for those affected by suicide.
