The Cleveland Guardians were able to defeat the Boston Red Sox on the road on Wednesday night by a final score of 7-6. The win marks the seond straight for Cleveland in this road series against Boston.

For Cleveland (50-47), the Guardians got on the board first in the 2nd inning due to RBI groundouts by rookie outfielder Nolan Jones and catcher Austin Hedges, while outfielder Myles Straw hit an RBI double the same inning to give Cleveland a 3-0 lead. In the 4th inning, outfielder Steven Kwan hit an RBI double while shortstop Amed Rosario hit an RBI single to give Cleveland a 5-2 lead. The Red Sox came back to take the lead, but in the 8th inning Straw hit his second RBI double to tie the game at 6-6. Finally in the 9th inning, first baseman Josh Naylor hit a solo homerun to give the Guardians a 7-6 lead and win. Starting pitcher Cal Quantrill went 5.1 innings, struck out four batters and allowed eight hits and five earned runs. Relief pitcher Enyel De Los Santos got his second win of the season for going 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out a batter.

For Boston (49-50), third baseman Bobby Dalbec hit a two-run homerun in the 2nd inning. Later in the 4th inning, first baseman Franchy Cordero hit an RBI double while Dalbec hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 5-4. Dalbec continued his great play with his second two-run homerun of the day in the 6th inning to take a 6-5 lead. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi went 6.0 innings, struck out a batter and allowed nine hits and three earned runs. Relief pitcher Tanner Houck suffered his fourth loss of the season for going 1.0 inning and allowing one hit and one earned run, which was the game-winning run for the Guardians.

The Guardians will wrap up this road series against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, July 28th, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m.
