Wayne County commissioners have created a new committee to investigate drug overdose and opioid-related deaths within the county. Health Commissioner Nick Cascarelli will lead the committee, which will create a database of information that other agencies in the community can then put to use. Health department records show Wayne County had 40 overdose deaths in 2021, while last year 28 deaths were attributed to drug overdoses. Cascarelli says he hopes to have committee members in place and meeting by no later than early summer.
