In Ashland County, authorities continue to investigate the five-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a woman from Wellington and injured four others.  It happened Wednesday night, at the intersection of U.S. Route 42 and State Route 89.  According to the highway patrol, 70-year old Christine Smith, who was killed in the crash, failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign and struck another vehicle.  Both vehicles then struck three motorcycles, which were stopped at the intersection.  The driver of the other car, a 44-year old Ashland women, was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the three motorcyclists, two from West Salem and one from Jeromesville, were all taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
