The city of Orrville’s annual Fourth of July celebration has been cancelled this year due to the continued coronavirus pandemic.

The Orrville Firefighters Association, which for the past 36 years has run the weeklong celebration, made the decision Wednesday.

The cancellation applies to all of the Fourth of July festivities, including the parade, carnival and fireworks show, which can draw upwards of 60,000 people to town. This year, the celebration was scheduled to run from June 30 to July 4, culminating with the fireworks show put on by the Orrville Firefighters Association.

The two softball tournaments held in conjunction with the Independence Day celebration have also been canceled.
