A head-on collision yesterday morning in Wayne County’s Chester Township claimed the life of one man and seriously injured another.  The crash occurred on U.S. Route 250, near Firestone Road, when a van went left of center and hit a pickup truck.  Killed in the crash was Thomas Smith, a 38-year man from Ashtabula County, while 33-year old Zachary Stutzman, of Warren, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.  Neither was wearing a seatbelt and both were ejected from the van.  A third person in the van was also injured, but fled the scene due to a pending arrest warrant.  The two people in the truck, meanwhile, escaped with only minor injuries.  The Highway Patrol says alcohol, and or drugs, may have been a factor in the accident.  It is the fifth fatal crash in Wayne County so far this year.
