When Jamari Wheeler entered the transfer portal a couple of weeks ago, it seemed as if he was good as gone, no matter how great of a pitch Micah Shrewsberry made to try to get him to reconsider. What wasn’t anticipated perhaps, was Jamari opting to transfer to a Big Ten rival, but that’s precisely what’s happening as he announced tonight via Twitter that he will play his final year of college basketball at Ohio State.

Wheeler, a Live Oak, Fla., native, was known for his defense during his time in State College. He twice made the All-Big Ten Defensive team, and he averaged 1.8 steals per game as a senior. Wheeler averaged 6.8 points per game in his career, but he saved one of his best performances for the postseason when he scored 19 points in a Big Ten tournament comeback win over Nebraska.

In his career, he averaged 3.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 127 games (84 starts).
