PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is calling for a criminal investigion of an incident at the Case Farms’ processing facility in Winesburg. PETA’s request stems from an incident back in December in which a USDA inspector reportedly witnessed a worker at the plant punching a chicken in the chest. Under Ohio Law, cruelty to animals is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $750 fine. The Holmes County Prosecutor’s Office says it has yet to receive any request from PETA to look into the matter.
