A volunteer firefighter in Rittman who was scheduled to have open-heart surgery on Monday got an early Christmas present when doctors informed him that he wouldn’t need the surgery after all.  41-year old Mike Riding was told that one of his arteries was almost completely blocked when he went to the hospital earlier this month because of a bacterial infection, but according to his family’s Facebook page, doctors, while performing a pre-operative examination, determined that after the infection went away Riding’s valve went back to normal and that his heart is now functioning at 100%.
