Smithville football will have a new head coach for the upcoming football season.
Mike Baker announced he was stepping down as Smithies head football coach after three seasons. Baker went 9-19 during his three-year tenure at Smithville, with a best mark of 5-5 during the 2019 campaign that saw the Smithies pull off several upsets and nearly qualify for the playoffs. During the 2020 season, Smithville endured injuries to many key players, going 3-5 but winning a playoff game against East Canton.
Smithville’s next coach will be its fourth since 1977, with Keith Schrock holding the position for most of that time (1977-2011) before Brent Besancon (2012-2017) and Baker (2018-2020) took over.
