State Representative Scott Wiggam, of Wooster, has apologized to a fellow lawmaker for comments he made about him to a student club at the University of Akron. Wiggam, who is a Republican, was recorded on video talking about State Senator Niraj Antani, of Miamisburg, who is also a Republican. The comments were made while Wiggam spoke about the death penalty, which he supports, but Antani does not. Wiggam told the students that Antani opposes the death penalty because he is Hindu and “they won’t even kill cows”. Antani, who considers Wiggam a friend, accepted his apology, but said the comments were crass, offensive and a stark example of how his party needs to do better when speaking about race and religion.
