Lightning appears to be the culprit in Rittman as to why the town’s tornado sirens did not go off during the strong storms that rolled through the area late Tuesday. Officials in Rittman were having the system looked at Wednesday to determine the exact cause, but did say lighting is likely what caused the failure. The strong storms rolled through much of Medina County, as well as parts of Wayne, Summit and Stark Counties. The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday that an EF-1 tornado, with winds gusting 90-100 miles per hour did touchdown in Medina. The storms left thousands without power, with some not expected to regain power until Thursday.
