Employees of UH Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland along with members of the community gathered at the hospital Friday for an open house to say goodbye to UH Samaritan Medical Center’s birthing unit, which has been delivering babies for 112 years. In July, UH Samaritan announced the decision close its labor and delivery department. 21 employees who were in the birthing unit were affected by the decision and must now find work elsewhere. Samaritan will continue to provide women’s care, including children’s health services, OB/GYN physician and midwife care, GYN surgical services, and breastfeeding and lactation services.
