Wayne County Commissioners, at their meeting on Wednesday, presented a proclamation recognizing January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Commissioners gave the proclamation to Gayle Byrne of the Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition that represents Wayne, Holmes and Ashland counties. According to Byrne, Ohio ranks fifth in the nation in the number of human trafficking victims and cases. In an effort to raise awareness of human trafficking, the coalition will be hosting an event next Thursday at the main branch of the Wayne County Public Library.
