The Wayne County Heart Walk held yesterday at Oak Hill Park in Wooster was a success!  More than 600 walkers ascended at Oak Hill Park in support of the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission. To date, the campaign has raised over $160,000 with a goal of $225,000. We will receive additional participant income over the next 30 days and even more income will be collected through Buehler’s Fresh Foods “Life is Why” campaign. Buehler’s is collecting donations at the cash registers of all their locations. Reaching our campaign goal is definitely in sight. Wayne Heart Walk is among 300 Heart Walks held in communities across the nation. Nearly 1 million people walk each year for a singular mission, to cure heart disease and stroke.

The Wayne Walk is the signature event of the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge program which is designed to help companies positively impact employee overall health and wellbeing. The program is anchored in a series of customizable workplace events that inspire employees to be more engaged, reconnect with colleagues, be physically active, support a great cause, and have fun while doing it.

The funds raised from the Wayne Heart Walk go towards local programs in Wayne County including blood pressure control, CPR training and nutrition education for school children and their families. Funds also benefit research, advocacy, and public health education efforts to promote better health in support of the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, reducing barriers to health care access and quality.
