Wayne County is submitting an application for a state grant to help with the Heartland Trail project in Chippewa Township. If approved, the grant would be for about $1 million. Wayne County Rails to Trails would then cover the remaining amount of the estimated $1.3 million project. The portion of the trail to be worked on in Chippewa Township is located between Coal Bank and Black Diamond roads. According to the county, work on that section of the trail is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2027.
