On April 8, 2020 Wayne County Health Department reported the first death of a novel Covid-19 patient.

The hospitalized patient was a 71 year-old man. Wayne County Health Department will not be releasing any identifiable information to protect his privacy.
“On behalf of the entire county, we express our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” said Heath Commissioner Nicholas Cascarelli

“We have been working tirelessly responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to reach out to all known close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases to make sure we help prevent the spread of this disease, as well as ensure that the public has up-to date and reliable information,” said Cascarelli.

The health department is encouraging Wayne County residents to continue practicing social distancing and staying home to slow the spread of the virus as COVID-19 continues to spread throughout communities.
According to the most recent county statistics, Wayne County currently has 29 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 11 hospitalizations.
