Thanks to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, the Wayne County Schools Career Center in Smithville has received almost $125,000 in emergency grants. The money has been used to help more than 80 students with unexpected school related expenses during the pandemic. Some of these expenses included purchasing equipment to ensure social distancing in classrooms and labs, water bottle filling stations, and hand sanitizer dispensers. Students were also able to apply for a portion of the grant money, which could help with tuition or other costs of learning remotely.
