Doug Geiser was named Ashland University’s next head football coach on Tuesday afternoon, making him only the 15th head coach all-time since 1920.

Geiser takes over for former Eagles head coach Lee Owens, who announced his retirement on Dec. 2 after 19 years at the school.

A graduate of Triway High School, he has been with Owens and Ashland since 2004 and served as the offensive line coach, run game coordinator and the associate head coach.

Geiser follows in the line of the previous three Eagle head coaches, who combined spanned more than six decades – College Football Hall of Famer Dr. Fred Martinelli (1959-93), Ashland University Hall of Famer Gary Keller (1994-2003), and Owens.
