The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Chicago White Sox on the road on Thursday by a final score of 3-1 to prevent a series sweep against Chicago, who won the series 2-1.

For Cleveland (20-23), the Guardians trailed 1-0 entering the 5th inning, but tied it up at 1-1 when first baseman Gabriel Arias hit a solo homerun. The Guardians would later take the lead in the 7th inning due to Cleveland scoring on a fielding error by Chicago. The Guardians would extend their lead that same inning, when catcher Cam Gallagher hit an RBI single to give Cleveland a 3-1 lead and eventual win. Starting pitcher Logan Allen went 5.2 innings, struck out five batters and allowed seven hits and a walk for one earned run. Relief pitcher Nick Sandlin got his second win of the season for going 1.1 innings with a strikeouts and no hits.

For Chicago (16-29), catcher Seby Zavala got the White Sox on the board in the 4th inning due to an infield RBI single for their only run of the game. Starting pitcher Dylan Cease suffered his third loss of the year for going 6.1 innings, striking out three batters, but allowing five hits and a walk for three earned runs.

The Guardians will next be on the road to begin a three-game series against the New York Mets on Friday, May 19th, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
