Lee Owens, head football coach of the Ashland University Eagles, announced his retirement on Friday afternoon.

Owens just completed his 18th season with the Eagles, taking Ashland to a 10-2 record, an outright Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship and a playoff win over Notre Dame College.

The 66-year old Owens posted a career record of 137-61 and got Ashland to six Division II playoff appearances, the program’s first three Division II postseason wins, and four conference championships.

Owens is the only Ashland head football coach to lead his team to multiple NCAA postseason appearances, as well as the only one to win an NCAA playoff game.
