A local firefighter is being recognized by the state. Shawn McKelvey, assistant chief and fiscal officer for the South Central Fire District, in Fredericksburg, was recently named the Fire Officer of the Year by the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Fire and the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Division of EMS. McKelvey was presented with the award two weeks ago during a ceremony at COSI, down in Columbus.
