The Montreal Canadiens have selected Slovak winger Juraj Slafkovsky with the first pick in the NHL draft. He’s the first player from Slovakia to be taken No. 1 overall. The Canadiens said they were also considering Canadian center Shane Wright, who was selected with the fourth pick by Seattle, and American forward Logan Cooley, who went third to Arizona. Surprisingly, the New Jersey Devils selected Slovak defenseman Simon Nemec with the second pick.
