The Cleveland Cavaliers were defeated by the Toronto Raptors on the road in the season opener on Wednesday night by a final score of 108-105.
For Cleveland (0-1), guard Donovan Mitchell, who made his Cavaliers debut, led all scorers with 31 points on 12-21 shooting while also dishing out nine assists. Forward Evan Mobley scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, while center Jarrett Allen recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also blocking two shots.
All-Star guard Darius Garland left in the second quarter and did not return after being poked in the eye by Gary Trent Jr. of the Raptors.
The Cavaliers as a team shot 48.7% from the field, along with 35.7% (10-28) from beyond the three-point arc. The Cavaliers grabbed 38 total rebounds, blocked five shots and committed 16 turnovers.
For Toronto (1-0), forward Pascal Siakam recorded a double-double with 23 points, which led all scorers, and 11 rebounds. Guard Gary Trent Jr. had 19 points and made four three-pointers, while forward O.G. Anunoby scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
The Raptors as a team shot 41.9% from the field, along with 43.3% (13-30) from three-point range. The Raptors also grabbed 42 rebounds, recorded 14 steals and committed 13 turnovers.
Cleveland’s next game will be a road match up against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, October 22nd, with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m.
