For the first time in 20 years, public defenders in Ashland County will be getting a raise. Ashland County Commissioners voted to raise hourly pay for in and out of court to $75. The move was made in part to keep and help attract more public defenders to the county. The hourly fees had been $60 in court and $50 out of court. Holmes County also updated their pay for public defenders to $75, while Wayne County hasn’t raised pay since 1986.
